Many electrical contractors have invested in prefabrication processes as part of their project planning to produce outlet boxes, panel builds, conduit bends, precut raceway for conduit runs and larger electrical and power assemblies. Prefabrication processes are being used in industrial, commercial, and residential installations from oil and gas, healthcare and education facilities to housing and multi-resident environments. As with many of the efficiencies and improved results today’s electrical contractor is finding through the use of technology, the overall quality of project planning has improved to allow for AutoCad, BIM, VR and other backend software tools to be better utilized in practice. Safety Another significant change involves the increased focus on safety. “The emphasis and demand for safe practices and a safe worksite are all positive changes,” says Lingo. “Regulations and training -- like the NFPA 70E which deals with energized work -- encourage safety and protect the employee. Jobsite information, the development and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and ARC flash training have all helped to mitigate serious risks common 20 years ago.” Safety advances also have made their way directly to consumers through GFCI and AFCI devices that protect people and property. “The use of electrical energy has become more advanced and strategic,” adds Lingo. “We rely on electricity now more than ever before.
