Top 8 Wins for the Construction
Industry in 2019
AGC and the construction industry had a great year in 2019.
Here are the top 8 Wins:
1. SHOP Act – AGC’s signature bill of the 2019 legislative session to add shop back in the high schools
was approved unanimously by the House and Senate and signed by Gov Polis on March 7, 2019.
2. Diversity – AGC’s Diversity Committee made great strides and AGC now has 40 MWBE Certified
and Emerging businesses as members, making AGC and the industry more inclusive.
3. 1,200 students in 19 High School Construction Trade Programs – AGC and HBA partnered
to grow the Careers in Construction high school program to 19 high schools and 1,200

4. 1,100 participants graduated from CCN Pre-apprenticeship Program –
AGC and CCA have now produced 1,100 graduates from the Construction
Careers Now pre-apprenticeship program. BuildColorado.com
5. $1.4 million in WORK ACT Funding – AGC and CCA and HBA received $1.4 million in WORK Act Cycle
5 grant funding from the CO Dept of Labor and Employment for the Careers in Construction and
Construction Careers Now programs – fueling more workforce development for construction.
6. BEST Grant Program Funding – AGC led the private sector effort to allocate additional marijuana
excise tax revenue to the state’s BEST Grant Program for K-12 school construction. BEST now
receives over $80 million a year from the marijuana excise tax.
7. Advocacy for the Industry – AGC was a private sector leader in keeping a 1% Residential Growth
Limitation measure (Prop 66) off the ballot in Nov. ‘18, helped defeat Initiative 300 (homeless
occupation of public sidewalks and parks) on the May ‘19 Denver ballot, helped keep the Carbon
Tax off the Nov ‘19 ballot in Denver, and helped elect pro-business Mayors in Arvada, Aurora and
Lakewood in Nov ’19.
8. Membership Award - AGC reaches the 650-member mark, an all-time high, and wins national
Membership Growth Award from AGC America.
