The demand for people to fill construction jobs in Colorado exceeds the national average, and Community College of Denver has added two new certificates to the ecosystem of training and education providers addressing the local skills gap in the construction industry. The new Building Crafts certificates uniquely combine classroom coursework in design skills with field training in construction, and each can be completed in two semesters. The Basic Building Crafts and Advanced Building Crafts certificates are both a blend of classroom, digital design and construction learning opportunities and include a seven-week, hands-on experience at a Habitat for Humanity build site. It is estimated that there may be a need for as many as 60,000 new employees in the construction industry in the next 10 years, in Colorado alone.
